Luci Plaxton Wins 50 Free, Pawel Glowiak Takes Second in 200 IM at PSAC Meet

Luci Plaxton won the 50 free while Pawel Glowiak took second in the 200 IM to highlight the IUP performance on the first full day of the PSAC swimming championships at Clarion.

The IUP women are in third place with 192 points, trailing the host Golden Eagles (317) and West Chester (249.5).  The men are in fourth place with 90 points, behind West Chester (190), Clarion (161) and Shippensburg (93).

Plaxton posted a winning time of 24.33 in the 50 free, edging out Kate Jones of West Chester by .04, while also swimming a leg on two relays that finished in the top five. 

In the 400 medley relay, Plaxton joined Natasha Iacobucci, Galit Regev and Carlee Myers to finish third in 3:58.48.  The 200 free relay team of Plaxton, Regev, Brittany Watkins and Melissa Kucharczuk was fifth in 1:40.32.

Glowiak had a second place time of 1:55.92 in the 200 IM.  He was followed in the event by Jeremy Butler, who was seventh in 2:00.20, and James Reed, who took ninth in 2:02.03.

Glowiak, Butler, Reed and Alex Anderson comprised the fifth place team in the 200 free relay (1:28.97) while Glowiak, Reed, Anderson and Baron Leonard finished fifth in the 400 medley relay (3:37.08).

In other top women's finishes, Kucharczuk was fourth in the 500 free (5:13.23), and Heidi Mitskavich was seventh in 5:12.37.  Although Mitskavich had a faster time in the finals, she could finish no higher than seventh after qualifying for the B finals.

Watkins was seventh in the 200 IM (2:13.43).  In the opening event of the meet on Wednesday, Mitskavich was fifth in the 1000 free (10:39.11).

Hamilton Terrell turned in a pair of top five finishes.  In the 1000 free on Wednesday, he was fourth with a time of 9:46.64 and then placed fifth in the 500 free on Thursday with a mark of 4:45.88.

The four-day meet continues through Saturday.
