IUP Teams Take the Lead on Day 1 of the IUP Invitational

Freshman Pawel Glowiak won one individual event,
was second in another and swam legs on a pair of victorious relay teams
to lead the IUP men to a sizeable lead after Day 1 of the IUP
Invitational at Memorial Field House.
The men have a total of 429 points to easily lead
Kutztown, which has 354. Rounding out the field are Edinboro (265)
and Slippery Rock (173).
The IUP women also lead with 286 points.
Kutztown is second with 238, followed by Edinboro (229.5), Lock Haven
(193), East Stroudsburg (178), Slippery Rock (120) and Mansfield (61.5).
Glowiak won the 200 IM in 1:56.49 to lead a sweep
of the top four positions by IUP swimmers in the event. Marek
Malopolski was next (1:56.63), followed by Bartosz Ostrowski (2:04.69)
and Jeremy Butler (2:04.71).
Glowiak also took second place in the 50 free
(22.64). He was joined by Malopolski, Ostrowski and Stephen Waters
in winning the 200 free relay (1:29.32) and by Malopolski, Ostrowski and
Alex Anderson on the top 400 medley relay squad (3:42.21).
Danny Darvalics also provided IUP with a first
place finish on Friday, touching first in the 500 free (4:50.56).
On the women's side, Galit Regev turned in the top
individual performance, finishing second in the 200 IM (2:16.56).
IUP had three swimmers in the first six in the event, including Luci
Plaxton (fifth, 2:20.46) and Natasha Iacobucci (sixth, 2:23.94).
The three-day meet continues on Saturday (10 a.m.
and 5 p.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m. and 4 p.m.).
