Cut in 50 Free, IUP Takes Five Firsts at Davidson Invitational

Luci Plaxton posted a time of 24.05 in the 50
freestyle to earn an NCAA "A" cut to highlight IUP's opening day
performance at the Davidson Invitational.
IUP claimed five first place finishes, including
three meet records. Bartosz Ostrowski won the men's 50 free
(21.21) and Marek Malopolski took the 200 IM (1:54.99) to set new meet
standards in those events.
Also setting a meet record was the men's 400 medley
relay team of Malopolski, Ostrowski, freshman Pawel Glowiak and James
Reed, which had a time of 3:28.07.
Glowiak, like Malopolski and Ostrowski a native of
Poland, was second in the 200 IM in 1:56.18. Fellow newcomer Joe
Abbott won the 3m diving competition with a score of 142.75.
The IUP men have 260 points in the team standings,
trailing only Davidson, which totaled 325. In the women's
standings, the College of Charleston leads with 319, followed by
Davidson (274.5) and IUP (215).
The three-day meet continues through the weekend.
