Luci Plaxton Finishes
Sixth in 50 Freestyle at NCAA Meet

Junior Luci Plaxton
finished sixth in the 50 freestyle to earn All-America honors in the
event for the second straight year and highlight the IUP performance on
the first day of the NCAA Division II swim meet Wednesday.
Plaxton touched in a
time of 23.56, just .07 shy of the school record set by Petra Adamkova
in 2000. Plaxton was also sixth in the 50 free a year ago. She will
compete in the 100 free and 100 backstroke later in the week.
Bartosz Ostrowski
scored for the IUP men, tying for 15th in the 50 free with a
time of 21.09 in the finals. His mark of 20.87 in the prelims lowered
his own school record. Ostrowski is entered in the 100 and 200 free as
well.
Heidi Mitskavich was
19th in the 1000 free (10:42.90) while Marek Malopolski
competed in the 200 individual medley but did not qualify for the event
finals. Mitskavich is also swimming in the 500 and 1650 free.
Malopolski will try to improve his luck in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
The four-day meet
continues through Saturday.
