IUP senior first baseman
Hilary Tutrani has been named the PSAC West Player of the Week after leading
the Crimson Hawks to a 5-1 record against Wheeling Jesuit, Clarion and
Slippery Rock.
Tutrani
(Royersford/Spring-Ford) had 12 hits in 25 at bats for an average of .480
for the week. She had a double and a home run, scored five times and drove
in 11 runs while hitting safely in all six games.
Tutrani went 4-for-5 with a
double, three runs scored and five RBI in a 20-4 win in the second game of
Friday’s doubleheader at Clarion after going 2-for-4 and knocking in two
runs in the opener. In a 6-3 win over Slippery Rock in the first game of a
twinbill on Saturday, she hit a go-ahead three-run homer and drove in a
total of four runs.
For the season, Tutrani has
started all 29 games and is second on the team with a batting average of
.337 (32-for-95). She has eight doubles, three home runs and a team-leading
23 RBI.
Tutrani ranks in the top 10
in three categories in IUP history. She is tied for seventh in home runs
with 10, eighth in RBI with 65 and tied for eighth in walks with 31. She
reached the 100-hit plateau against Kutztown on Monday and has a career
batting average of .293.
IUP stands at 3-1 in the
PSAC West (12-17 overall) heading into a pair of doubleheaders on the road
this week at Lock Haven on Friday and California on Saturday.
