IUP Recognizes National Fastpitch Coaches Association Strike Out Cancer Day

The IUP softball team hosted its annual Strike Out Cancer Day on Monday, April 30 when the Crimson Hawks took on Edinboro at Podbielski Field.

Strike Out Cancer Day is sponsored across the country by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.  This was the seventh year that IUP has participated in this important event.

A donation was made by the IUP softball team to the American Cancer Society to enhance that organization's research efforts.

As part of the pregame activities, Lexi Lindros and Morgan Cannin threw out ceremonial first pitches in honor of relatives who passed away from cancer.

Lexi is a third grader at West Side Elementary in Johnstown who threw out her first pitch in memory of her grandmother, Gerrie Tavalsky.

Morgan is in fourth grade at North Star East Elementary in Somerset.  Her first pitch was in memory of her grandmother, Mary Yurcevic.
