IUP sophomore righthander
Jenny Shaffer has been selected the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week after
earning three wins and a save in four appearances last week.
Shaffer,
a graduate of Brookville High School, allowed only four runs (three earned)
with four walks and 17 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings, working to an ERA of
0.94 for the week. She posted wins over Clarion, Slippery Rock and Seton
Hill and picked up a save in the first game of the Seton Hill twinbill.
Shaffer posted a 3-1 win
over Clarion, surrendering no earned runs or walks while striking out
seven. She pitched another complete game in a 2-1 victory over Slippery
Rock, striking out six.
In the first game of the
doubleheader against Seton Hill, Shaffer struck out the final batter of the
game to pick up her second save of the season and then worked an eight
inning complete game in the nightcap in a 3-2 victory.
Including Monday’s start
against Edinboro, Shaffer had a record of 11-14 this season and an ERA of
2.78. She had 19 complete games, including two shutouts, and struck out 93
batters in 166 innings.
