New IUP softball head coach
Ali Ferrari has added Kate Refsnyder to her staff as an assistant coach.
Refsnyder
comes to IUP from Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor, Pa., where
she was the head coach during the 2007 season. She led the team to a record
of 20-5, a seven-win improvement over the previous year, and qualified for
the Philadelphia Catholic League playoffs.
She has previous college
coaching experience as a graduate assistant at PSAC East member East
Stroudsburg in 2006. Refsnyder helped the Warriors finish with a record of
27-27, setting a school record for wins in a season and earning the softball
team’s first berth in the NCAA regional tournament since 1982.
“Kate is a great addition to
our program,” said Ferrari. “Her vast experience at different levels of
softball will be a great asset to our staff. In addition to her on-field
knowledge, she brings a great attitude and excitement for the game.”
Refsnyder has worked at
several softball camps and clinics, including the prestigious UCLA camp in
the summer of 2005.
She played college softball
at Division I Wagner, where she pitched and played second and third base for
the Seahawks. She was named second team All-Northeast Conference as a
utility player in 2005.
Refsnyder earned her
bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Staten Island, N.Y.,
university in May 2005 and went on to receive her master of science degree
in sport management from East Stroudsburg last December.
