IUP Coasts Past Saint Vincent
in Non-Conference Game
Erin Falce scored two second half goals to help IUP break
open a close contest as the Indians defeated Saint Vincent
by a score of 5-1 in a non-conference match Monday.
The Indians improved to 6-4 while the Bearcats fell to 5-7.
IUP jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, going in
front on an early tally by Corey Weir, assisted by Emily
Thomas. The Indians added to their lead at the 9:00 mark
of the opening half when Crystal Heder took a pass from
Falce and beat Saint Vincent goalkeeper Andrea Thomas.
The Bearcats made it interesting a couple of minutes later
when April Andriscin scored to pull Saint Vincent within a
goal at intermission.
But IUP wasted little time in rebuilding its lead. With
just four minutes expired after the break, Shelley Queiser
scored to give the Indians a 3-1 advantage.
Falce then put the game away with her two goals, the first
coming with 17:11 left on the clock on a pass from Thomas
and the second with 2:39 remaining, assisted by Heder.
Sarah Daw played most of the game in goal for IUP and made
five saves before being replaced late in the contest by
Georgia Goodman. Thomas was credited with 12 saves for
Saint Vincent, and backup Laurie Havrisko registered two
saves.
IUP returns to PSAC play on Wednesday with a home contest
against Edinboro beginning at 4:00.
