IUP Soccer Program
Adds 17 Newcomers for 2007 Season
The IUP women's soccer
team has added 17 new players for the 2007 season, including 16 freshmen
and one transfer.
Kelsey Dowling, GK,
Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend
Kelsey has been the team captain and an all-district selection each
of the past three seasons. She helped lead her team to the
district title in 2005, 2006 and 2007, the region championship in 2006
and a berth in the state semifinals in 2006.
Viann Heder, F,
Vandergrift/Kiski Area
The youngest daughter of IUP head coach Adel Heder and sister of
former IUP standout Crystal Heder (2003-06), Viann was her team's
leading scorer in 2006 when she was named to the all-section team.
She played on a pair of section championship teams in 2005 and 2006.
Kelsey Hernjak,
MF/D, Camp Hill/Cumberland Valley
Kelsey was a two-year starter on a team that reached the state
championship game in 2006 and the quarterfinals the previous season.
Overall, her team reached the district and state playoffs three times
and were district champions in 2004.
Kyra Hricik, MF/D,
Moon Township/Moon
Kyra started all four seasons and was on the all-section team as a
senior. Her team reached the finals of the state tournament each
season from 2004 to 2006, won the WPIAL title in 2004 and were WPIAL
finalists in 2006.
Allison Keller, F,
Exton/Downingtown
Allison started two seasons for her high school team and was also
selected to the 2007 SYL Olympic Development Program national team.
Her high school squad won the Ches-Mont Conference title in 2006, was a
district semifinalist and reached the state playoffs.
Melissa Kornock,
F/MF, Hatfield/North Penn
Melissa was a two-time all-league and all-state selection. She
was named her team's Offensive Player of the Year in 2006 and Rookie of
the Year in 2005.
Jenna Kukla, D,
Pittsburgh/Baldwin
Jenna was chosen her team's Defensive Player of the Year twice and
was an all-section performer in 2006.
Melissa Leszek,
F/MF, Fairview/Fairview
Melissa started all four years for a team that won the a district
championship and was a state quarterfinalist in 2006. That same
season, she was named to the all-district team.
Brianna Liebold,
F/MF, Houston/Chartiers Houston
Brianna is a transfer from Penn State. During her high school
career, she scored 148 goals. She was named to the All-WPIAL and
all-section team in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and was selected to the
all-state team her final two seasons. As a senior, she was chosen
the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Player of the Year.
Lauren Mizik, MF,
Irwin/Hempfield
Lauren was named to the all-section team in 2005 and 2006 and was
the MVP of the Altoona Classic Tournament both of those seasons as well.
Ashley Moyer, F/MF,
Perkasie/Pennridge
Ashley was an all-section performer in 2004 and 2005.
Cassie O'Neill,
MF/D, Pittsburgh/Plum
Cassie was a three-year starter and named to the all-section team in
2005.
Meghan Shoff, D,
Sinking Spring/Wilson
Meghan was on the all-league team in 2005 and 2006. Her team
won the Tri-County championship in 2006, captured the division title in
2006 and 2007 and earned berths in the district playoffs the past two
seasons.
Rosemary Terak, MF,
Pittsburgh/Shaler
Rosemary was a four-year starter and an all-section choice in 2006.
She was her team's MVP and Offensive Player of the Year her senior
season.
Paige Virgara, F/MF,
Pittsburgh/Keystone Oaks
Paige was an all-section player each season from 2004 through 2006.
Collette Watters, D,
Altoona/Altoona
Collette was named to the Altoona Mirror all-star team in 2005 and
2006 and was her team's Defensive MVP both seasons. She was chosen second
team all-conference all four years.
Sara Yingling, GK,
Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley
Sara started all four seasons and was her team's Defensive Player of
the Year three times. She helped lead her team to three berths in
the district and state playoffs, the state finals in 2006 and the
quarterfinals the previous season. Her squad won the district
title in 2004.
