Ray Schreiner
Continues IUP Run of PSAC West Players of the Week
IUP freshman forward Ray Schreiner has been
named the PSAC West Player of the Week for women’s soccer after scoring
three goals in a pair of wins last week.
Schreiner
(Richboro/Council Rock North) is the third straight IUP player selected
for the weekly award. Goalkeeper Becky Dillard and midfielder Brittany
Pikur were chosen the past two weeks.
Schreiner scored two goals against Lock Haven
to extend what was just a 2-1 lead to a three-goal advantage en route to
a 6-3 victory that clinched the PSAC West title for IUP. She then had a
goal and an assist in a 5-0 non-conference win over Wheeling Jesuit.
The two-goal game against Lock Haven was the
third such contest of the season for Schreiner, who also found the net
twice in earlier wins over Bridgeport and West Virginia Wesleyan.
On the year, Schreiner has 11 goals and 24
total points, ranking second on the team in both categories. She is
third in the PSAC in goals and fifth in points. Her 11 goals is tied
for the ninth best single season figure in IUP history while her 24
points places her 13th.
IUP is 12-4 on the season and is ranked second
in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region and 13th in the
latest National Soccer Coaches Association Top 25. IUP wraps up the
regular season at home on Tuesday against Clarion at 4 p.m. and at
Gannon on Sunday at 3:30.
The PSAC tournament gets under way on October
24, with IUP earning a first round bye. IUP will host the winner of the
Slippery Rock-Lock Haven game in the semifinals a week from Friday
(October 27) at 1 p.m. The championship game is Sunday, October 29 at
the home of the Western Division survivor.
