IUP Cruises to Shutout Win
Over Pitt Greensburg
IUP dominated from the outset, scoring five first half goals
en route to a 6-0 shutout over visiting Pitt Greensburg in a
non-conference game Wednesday afternoon.
The Indians (11-5) got a pair of goals from Crystal Heder to
get the rout started. Heder scored just 6:11 into the game
and added another tally with 18:29 expired to give IUP a 2-0
lead.
Corey Weir and Erin Falce assisted on the two goals by Heder.
Falce made it 3-0 with 21:10 left in the first half off an
assist by Erin Vance. The goal was the 14th of the season
for Falce, moving her into sole possession of third place on
IUP's single season list.
Including her assist, Falce has 35 points for the year. Only
Amy Peterson (43 points in 1994 and 38 in 1995) has more in
one season than does Falce.
The Indians scored twice more before the first half was over.
Emily Thomas found the net just 1:50 after Falce did, while
Cora Roeder scored with 12:20 left in the opening period.
Vance assisted on the Thomas goal while Susie Giovengo got
the assist on the Roeder goal.
With a sizeable lead, IUP coasted after intermission, adding
one goal when Shelley Queiser scored with 19:51 remaining,
with the assist going to Laurie Nebiker.
Sarah Daw played the first half in goal for IUP, making one
save. Georgia Goodman stopped three shots while playing the
final 45 minutes.
IUP returns to PSAC play this weekend with a pair of crucial
games in the race for the postseason. The Indians entertain
Millersville on Saturday and West Chester on Sunday.
