Sarah Romasco Named to NSCAA All-Region Team; Adel Heder Chosen Coach of the Year

IUP freshman forward Sarah Romasco has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Northeast Region first team while Adel Heder was selected the Region Coach of the Year.

Romasco advances to the ballot for All-America consideration while Heder, who was also the PSAC West Coach of the Year, is one of eight candidates for National Coach of the Year honors.

The award is the latest in a string of postseason awards for Romasco.  Previously, she was named the PSAC West Athlete and Rookie of the Year as well as a first team Daktronics Northeast Region all-star as chosen by region sports information directors.

Romasco (Freedom/Ambridge) led the PSAC in points with 55, tied for first in goals with 21 and was second in assists with 13, a figure that established a new IUP single season record.  Her goals and point total place her second on the IUP season list.

Romasco ranked ninth in the nation in points per game (2.62), tied for 13th in goals per game (1.00) and tied for 14th in assists per game (0.62).  She tied a school record with four goals against Clarion and had three-goal games against Bridgeport and Edinboro.

Heder is the Northeast Region Coach of the Year for the second time in his career after also receiving the award in 2001.  He was the PSAC West Coach of the Year in 2004 and earned the honor for the entire conference in 2001 before it was split into two divisions.

In 2006, Heder led IUP to a record of 15-7, its second straight PSAC West title and a berth in the NCAA tournament for the second time in the past three years.  IUP won its first ever postseason game with a 3-1 victory over New Haven in the Northeast Region semifinals and was ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 for most of the season, finishing at No. 15.

Heder has a record of 78-34-4 in six seasons at IUP, and his teams have won at least 12 games in five of those six campaigns, including a school-record 19 in 2004 when the team played in the NCAA tournament for the first time.
