IUP Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive
with Win Over Millersville
IUP kept its hopes alive for a berth in the PSAC playoffs by
defeating Millersville, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The Indians are 5-5 in the conference, good for 15 points,
and find themselves in a four-way battle for the remaining
three playoff spots.
Slippery Rock, West Chester and Kutztown have already secured
playoff bids. The other three teams will come from a group
that includes Edinboro and Lock Haven (19 points), Millersville
(18) and IUP.
Edinboro and Lock Haven both have one game left, Millersville
has three and IUP has two. The playoffs get under way on
November 4.
In the win over Millersville, Crystal Heder had a goal and an
assist to power the IUP offense. Heder broke a scoreless tie
with 9:58 expired in the second half off an assist by Selena
Stern.
The Indians made it 2-0 just 3:30 later when Heder assisted
on a goal by Shelley Queiser. IUP tacked on a final goal in
the last minute of the game, with Amanda Fecik assisting on
a tally by Krista Dohn.
Sarah Daw made seven saves in goal for IUP while Carolyn
Matisick stopped five shots for Millersville. The Indians
held a narrow 17-15 edge in shots.
IUP hosts West Chester on Sunday and Clarion on Tuesday and
in all probability need to win both games in order to qualify
for the PSAC playoffs.
