IUP Opens PSAC Play by
Defeating Lock Haven
Erin Falce, Crystal Heder and Corey Weir each scored goals to lead
IUP to a 3-1 victory over host Lock Haven in its Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference opener.
The Indians remained undefeated at 4-0 overall while Lock Haven is
now 2-5 and 0-2 in PSAC play.
IUP outshot Lock Haven by an 18-10 margin. Brandie Kessler made
seven saves for Lady Eagles while Indian netminder Sarah Daw stopped
four shots.
IUP jumped out to a 2-0 lead by halftime. Falce found the back of
the net just 6:12 into the contest, and Heder made it a two-goal
differential when she knocked in a rebound with 3:05 to go before
the break.
The Indians wasted little time in adding to their lead when the
teams returned from intermission, with Weir scoring with 3:18 gone
in the final 45 minutes.
Heder, Falce and Missy Swindel were credited with assists for the
Indians.
Lock Haven avoided the shutout with 15:53 remaining on a goal by
Caitlin Sultzbach.
IUP plays another PSAC contest on Saturday when East Stroudsburg
visits Indiana for a 4:00 matchup.
