IUP Falls at Mercyhurst
in Non-Conference Action
IUP snapped a three-game shutout streak but still fell short, dropping a 2-1
decision at Mercyhurst in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon.
The Indians lost their fourth in a row and fell to 3-4 on the year. The Lakers
improved to 6-2. IUP had lost the first three games of its current skid by
scores of 1-0.
Freshman Shelley Queiser got IUP off to a fast start when she scored her first
career goal off an assist by Nicki Weyant just 1:04 into the contest. The
Indians held the advantage until the closing seconds of the first half when
Mercyhurst tied the game on an unassisted goal by Julia Kowzan just 37 seconds
before intermission.
The game stayed even until there was just 1:24 remaining in regulation when
Jessica Morgan scored the winning goal, assisted by Rosie Brackman.
Sarah Daw made 11 saves in goal for IUP while Mercyhurst netminder Dayna
Shelkey stopped four Indian shots. The Lakers held a decided 24-11 advantage
in shots, including a 14-4 edge after halftime.
IUP is off until next Tuesday when California visits for a Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference contest. Kickoff for that game is 4:00.
