IUP Suffers Third Straight Loss
in Defeat at East Stroudsburg
Kate Melcer scored the lone goal of the game in the second overtime period
to lift host East Stroudsburg to a 1-0 victory over IUP in a Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Sunday afternoon.
The loss was the third in a row for IUP, all by scores of 1-0, and drops
the Indians to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in PSAC play. East Stroudsburg won for
the first time this season and improved to 1-6-1 and 1-0-1 in the conference.
Melcer got a header past IUP goalkeeper Sarah Daw with 1:33 expired in the
second overtime to give the Warriors the victory. Charlene Conklin was
credited with the assist. Prior to allowing the game winning tally, Daw
had stopped 17 East Stroudsburg shots.
Lindsey Vandergrift recorded the shutout for the Warriors, making 11 saves
along the way. IUP had 18 shots on goal but could not find the net.
IUP is back in action on Tuesday for a 4:00 contest at Mercyhurst.
