IUP Extends Winning Streak by
Routing Daemen in Home Opener
IUP improved its record to 3-0 after running past Daemen 9-0 Saturday afternoon in
its first home game of the 2002 campaign.
IUP jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first half. Freshman Laurie Nebiker scored two
goals for the Indians, and Tia Kipp tallied one goal and handed out two assists.
The other two IUP goals before intermission came from Lisa Castelli and Ashley
Gast.
The second half brought more IUP scoring. Shelley Dicken scored twice for the
Indians in the final 45 minutes, with Kipp and Susie Giovengo also tallying second
half goals for IUP.
Nebiker and Meghan Jones also had assists for IUP, which held a decisive 27-1 edge
in shots on goal. Francine Carson made 11 saves in goal for Daemen while Sarah
Daw and Jill Yacubouich combined for the shutout for the Indians.
IUP is back in action next Saturday at home against Kutztown in the first PSAC game
of the season. That game gets under way at noon.
