IUP Drops PSAC Game
to California
IUP and California battled through better than 78 minutes of scoreless play
before the Vulcans broke through to post a 2-0 victory over the host Indians
in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest.
The loss was the fifth in a row for IUP, which dropped to 3-5 overall and
0-4 in PSAC play. California moved to 6-4 on the year and won for the first
time in five conference contests.
The injury plagued Indians have scored only one goal during the five-game
skid after opening the season with three straight victories.
With 16:26 remaining in the scoreless battle, California's Rianna Coleman
beat IUP goalkeeper Sarah Daw on a penalty shot to give the Vulcans a 1-0
lead. Less than three minutes later, at the 13:52 mark, Brianne Plute took
a pass from Terri Flaherty and put it in the back of the net for an insurance
tally.
California totaled 13 shots on the day, one more than IUP. Daw recorded nine
saves while California netminder Dana Galiffa stopped four Indian shots.
IUP is off until October 12 when the Indians travel to Edinboro for another
PSAC game.
