IUP Shuts Out Geneva
Corey Weir, Erin Falce, Candace Campbell and Shanelle Peters
scored one goal each to lead IUP to a 4-0 non-conference win
over host Geneva Thursday afternoon.
The Indians improved to 8-5 on the season, limiting Geneva
to just two shots, with Sarah Daw stopping both. IUP fired
19 shots at Golden Tornado netminder Mandi Cwynar, who made
seven saves.
IUP scored the only goal it would need with 11:12 left in
the first half when Weir headed one in off an assist by
Meghan Jones. The Indians made it 2-0 five minutes before
intermission when Weir assisted on a Falce tally.
Just one minute into the second half, IUP struck again when
Campbell took a crossing pass from Laurie Nebiker and put
it past Cwynar to make it 3-0. Peters put the finishing
touches on the win, with Falce assisting on the goal.
Daw played the first 70 minutes with Georgia Goodman taking
over for the final 20. Goodman was not forced to make a
save.
IUP returns to PSAC play Saturday with a game at Bloomsburg.
Both teams need a win to maintain hopes for one of the four
berths in the conference playoffs.
