IUP Blanks Gannon
in Season Opener
The IUP women's soccer team opened its 2003 campaign on a successful
note Wednesday, shutting out visiting Gannon by a score of 2-0.
Despite several chances in the first half, the game remained scoreless
after the opening 45 minutes.
The Indians did not wait long to score the first goal of the contest
when the second half began. Freshman Emily Thomas found the back of
the net with 39:55 left in the game on a pass from fellow first-year
player Erin Falce.
Falce then sealed the victory with 14:12 remaining when she took a
header from Shanelle Peters and beat Gannon goalkeeper Amanda Hammill.
IUP goalie Sarah Daw saw only five shots and was forced to make just
one save. The Indians attempted 17 shots, with Hammill registering
six saves.
IUP plays its first road game of the season on Tuesday, traveling to
Penn State Altoona for a 7:00 kickoff.
