Becky Dillard Blanks
Slippery Rock and Cal to Earn PSAC West Player of the Week Award
IUP senior goalkeeper
Becky Dillard has been selected the PSAC West Player of the Week for
women’s soccer after posting a pair of shutouts last week that ran the
team’s winning streak to five games.
Dillard
(Pittsburgh/Baldwin) made eight saves in a 1-0 victory over Slippery
Rock on Wednesday that moved IUP into a first place tie with The Rock in
the PSAC West standings. She then played the first 77 minutes and
registered five saves in a 4-0 win at California that gave IUP sole
possession of the division lead.
For the season, Dillard
has started 10 games and made 46 saves while allowing only eight goals
for a 1.01 goals against average. She has been credited as the winning
goalkeeper in six of IUP’s nine victories.
In her career, Dillard
ranks second in school history in goals against average (0.93) and
fourth in both minutes played (2,800) and saves (224).
IUP is 9-3 overall and
6-1 in the PSAC West and is ranked 23rd in the nation in the
latest National Soccer Coaches Association poll. Should IUP win its
final three division games, it will earn a first round bye in the PSAC
tournament, which gets under way October 24.
