Three Goals and IUP Rallies to Defeat Stonehill

Sarah Romasco posted
her fourth career hat trick in only her second season at IUP, scoring
three times to lead the Crimson Hawks (9-5) to a 4-3 victory over
Stonehill (7-5-2) in a non-conference game on Monday at the South Campus
Field.
Romasco’s third goal of
the game came with 16:36 remaining and capped a comeback from a 3-2
halftime deficit. She also assisted on Kim Kowalski’s game tying goal
with 5:40 expired in the second half.
Romasco has 14 goals
and eight assists for 36 points on the season, leading IUP in all three
categories. She moved into third place on the IUP career scoring list
with 91 points and stands fourth in goals with 35 and fifth with 21
assists.
Romasco got IUP off to
a quick start, scoring twice in the opening 13:43 of the game to stake
the Crimson Hawks to an early 2-0 lead. Melissa Kornock assisted on the
first goal.
But Stonehill responded
with three goals in a span of 9:09, getting scores from Lauren Boyd,
Ashley Bourne and Kelly Regan, the latter giving the visitors a 3-2 lead
with 21:33 left in the first half. The Skyhawks maintained the lead
until IUP scored twice after intermission.
IUP’s Kelsey Dowling
and Stonehill’s Alex Eckhardt both made seven saves. The Crimson Hawks
held a 20-18 margin in shots while the Skyhawks took five corner kicks
to three for IUP.
IUP finishes its
six-game homestand with a PSAC crossover game against Shippensburg on
Thursday and a PSAC West contest against Lock Haven on Saturday.
