IUP Holds Huge
Statistical Advantage but Falls to Kutztown in PSAC Crossover Game

IUP held a 30-9
advantage in shots but 16 saves by Kutztown goalkeeper Stefanie Bonsky
and a penalty kick by Diana Hopper 11 minutes into the second half gave
the Golden Bears a 3-2 victory over the Crimson Hawks Saturday at the
South Campus Field.
IUP dropped to 8-5 in
the third game of its six-game homestand while Kutztown upped its record
to 9-5-2 with its PSAC crossover victory.
The Crimson Hawks led
twice at 1-0 and 2-1 before Kutztown tied it 10 minutes before halftime
and then won it on the Hopper penalty kick. Ashley Moyer scored off an
assist by Brittany Pikur with 23:30 expired in the first half to give
IUP the first goal of the game.
The Golden Bears tied
it on a goal by Kelly Bushe at the 26:50 mark, assisted by Michele Kalb,
but Sarah Romasco answered with her team-leading 11th goal of
the season with 10:47 left in the first half to put IUP back in front.
Kim Kowalski assisted on the Romasco goal.
A minute later, Raven
Chiara scored an unassisted goal to tie it up. Meanwhile, Bonsky
stopped 11 shots in the first half as IUP fired 17 shots on the Kutztown
goal and added five more saves after intermission as the Crimson Hawks
took another 13 shot attempts. Kelsey Dowling made one save for IUP.
The Crimson Hawks play
home games next week against Stonehill on Monday, Shippensburg on
Thursday and Lock Haven on Saturday.
