Carina Honeygosky, Sarah Romasco and Brianna Liebold Score Twice in Rout of Clarion

Boxscore

Carina Honeygosky scored twice as part of a three-goal explosion in the opening 5:22, and Sarah Romasco and Brianna Liebold also tallied two goals in an 11-0 victory over Clarion in a PSAC West contest Thursday at the South Campus Field.

IUP broke through for its first division win of the year, improving to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC West.  Clarion is 2-3 and 2-2.

The 11 goals broke the IUP record for most in a game against a Division II opponent, edging by one the previous mark set in a 10-0 victory over Clarion a year ago.  The overall record is 13 against Point Park in 2004.

After scoring just six goals in its first four games, the Crimson Hawk offense wasted little time in getting its game on track Thursday.  Honeygosky found the net just 26 seconds into the game off a feed from Romasco.

Honeygosky (pictured) scored her second goal of the game and the season three and a half minutes later, and Romasco scored at the 5:22 mark on an assist from Brittany Pikur to cap the early onslaught against Clarion goalie Jenna Kulik.

It stayed 3-0 for 30 minutes until Ray Schreiner and Rosie Terak scored in the final 10 minutes of the half.  Kim Kowalski and Liebold assisted on those two goals as the Crimson Hawks built a 5-0 halftime lead.

Liebold scored on a penalty kick to start the second half scoring, the first of her two goals in the final 45 minutes.  Also finding the net in the second half were Romasco, Melissa Kornock, Melissa Leszek and Ashley Moyer.

The goals were the first of their college careers for freshmen Liebold, a transfer from Penn State, Terak, Leszek and Moyer.

Kelsey Hernjak and Schreiner had second half assists.  Kelsey Dowling played the first half in goal for IUP and made three saves while April Hunsberger had two saves in the second half.

IUP outshot Clarion, 30-13 and took seven corner kicks to only one for the Golden Eagles.  Kulik stopped eight shots in goal for Clarion.

IUP hits the road for a game at Bloomsburg on Saturday at 2 p.m.  The Crimson Hawks return home to face California a week from Saturday at 1 p.m.
