IUP Continues Goal
Scoring Barrage, Defeats California in PSAC West Contest

Six different IUP players scored goals, including five in a span of 24
minutes in the opening half, as the Crimson Hawks posted an easy 6-1 win
over California in a PSAC West game Saturday at the South Campus field.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 4-2 overall and evened their division
record at 2-2. The Vulcans remained winless at 0-7-1 and 0-4-1 in
the PSAC West.
IUP has scored 17 goals in its past two official games. The
Crimson Hawks had 11 in an 11-0 shutout of Clarion on September 6.
IUP had one goal and led Bloomsburg, 1-0, last Saturday before that game
was declared a no-contest after a pair of lightning storms.
Brittany Pikur had a goal and an assist to lead the IUP attack, which
outshot California by a 31-5 margin. The Crimson Hawks took four
corner kicks to only one for the Vulcans.
Carina Honeygosky got the goal parade started with 11:28 expired in the
first half, and Sarah Romasco followed with her team-leading fourth goal
just under four minutes later, assisted by Pikur.
Pikur then found the net for the second time this season, with the
assist going to Melissa Kornock. After Katie Powell scored for
California, Elysse Dluhos and Melinda Lieb tallied goals for IUP to give
the Crimson Hawks their four-goal margin at halftime.
Allison Keller rounded out the scoring for IUP with her goal six minutes
after intermission.
April Hunsberger played the first 65 minutes in goal for the Crimson
Hawks and made three saves. Kelsey Dowling was not forced to make
a save in her 25 minutes of action. Erin Cook had 10 saves for
California.
IUP hits the road on Thursday to face archrival Slippery Rock in a 7
p.m. contest. The Rock began the week ranked fifth in the nation
in the National Soccer Coaches Association poll. The Crimson Hawks
are back home on Saturday against Mansfield at 2 p.m.
