Romasco Power IUP to Season Opening Win Over Wheeling Jesuit

Sarah Romasco and Ray Schreiner picked up where they left off a year
ago, both scoring a goal to give IUP a 2-1 road victory over Wheeling
Jesuit in its season opener on Monday.
Schreiner gave the Crimson Hawks a 1-0 lead 14:19 into the contest when
she scored off an assist by Romasco. Romasco then beat Wheeling
Jesuit goalie Lauren Lewicki on a one-on-one move with 36:45 left in the
game to make it 2-0.
The insurance goal proved critical when the Cardinals (1-1) cut their
deficit in half on a goal by Katie Groff with 12:05 left. Hannah
Walker assisted on the tally.
A year ago, Romasco led IUP and the PSAC with 21 goals en route to
earning conference rookie and player of the year honors. Schreiner
was second on the Crimson Hawks with 13 goals.
IUP held a 14-10 advantage in shots and 6-3 in corner kicks. April
Hunsberger was forced to make only one save for the Crimson Hawks while
Lewicki made six stops while playing the first 65:30 of the game.
IUP plays its first home and PSAC West game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at
the South Campus field against Edinboro.
