IUP Drops Overtime Decision to Mercyhurst to Conclude Homestand

Boxscore

Christine Rehnert scored with 1:42 expired in overtime to give Mercyhurst a 3-2 victory over IUP at the South Campus Field, wrapping up a six-game homestand for the Crimson Hawks.

IUP is 11-6 on the season while the Lakers improved to 13-3-1.  The Crimson Hawks had won six of their last seven games prior to Monday's defeat.  IUP is still winless in eight all-time meetings with Mercyhurst.

Melissa Kornock forced overtime with 16:48 left in regulation when she scored her seventh goal of the season off a feed from Sarah Romasco.  Romasco scored IUP's first goal, her 18th of the year, to tie the game at 1-1 in the first half.  Jena Chatlos assisted on the Romasco goal.

Mercyhurst scored first on a goal by Sarah Powell with 24:28 left in the first half.  After Romasco tied it at the 40:41 mark, Taylor Hilinski gave the Lakers their second lead of the game with 20:28 expired in the second half.

Mercyhurst held a 20-14 advantage in shots and 8-6 in corner kicks.  Kelsey Dowling made six saves for the Crimson Hawks and Rebecca Heintzmann stopped four shots for the Lakers.

IUP finishes its regular season with PSAC West road games at Clarion on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and California on Saturday at 2 p.m.

If the Crimson Hawks win both games, they will finish second in the division and host Edinboro in the opening round of the PSAC playoffs on October 30.  If IUP loses or ties either game, the game with the Fighting Scots will be played at Edinboro.
