IUP Continues Goal Scoring Barrage, Defeats California in PSAC West Contest

Boxscore

Six different IUP players scored goals, including five in a span of 24 minutes in the opening half, as the Crimson Hawks posted an easy 6-1 win over California in a PSAC West game Saturday at the South Campus field.

The Crimson Hawks improved to 4-2 overall and evened their division record at 2-2.  The Vulcans remained winless at 0-7-1 and 0-4-1 in the PSAC West.

IUP has scored 17 goals in its past two official games.  The Crimson Hawks had 11 in an 11-0 shutout of Clarion on September 6.  IUP had one goal and led Bloomsburg, 1-0, last Saturday before that game was declared a no-contest after a pair of lightning storms.

Brittany Pikur had a goal and an assist to lead the IUP attack, which outshot California by a 31-5 margin.  The Crimson Hawks took four corner kicks to only one for the Vulcans.

Carina Honeygosky got the goal parade started with 11:28 expired in the first half, and Sarah Romasco followed with her team-leading fourth goal just under four minutes later, assisted by Pikur.

Pikur then found the net for the second time this season, with the assist going to Melissa Kornock.  After Katie Powell scored for California, Elysse Dluhos and Melinda Lieb tallied goals for IUP to give the Crimson Hawks their four-goal margin at halftime.

Allison Keller rounded out the scoring for IUP with her goal six minutes after intermission.

April Hunsberger played the first 65 minutes in goal for the Crimson Hawks and made three saves.  Kelsey Dowling was not forced to make a save in her 25 minutes of action.  Erin Cook had 10 saves for California.

IUP hits the road on Thursday to face archrival Slippery Rock in a 7 p.m. contest.  The Rock began the week ranked fifth in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association poll.  The Crimson Hawks are back home on Saturday against Mansfield at 2 p.m.
