Freshman Duo Leads IUP
Past West Virginia Wesleyan in Non-Conference Contest

Freshmen Sarah Romasco and Rayannin
Schreiner both scored two goals to lift IUP to a 7-1 victory over West
Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference game on Thursday at the South
Campus Field.
IUP, ranked 23rd in the National
Soccer Coaches Association poll, improved to 7-3 while West Virginia
Wesleyan is 2-5.
Shana
Speese, Brittany Pikur and Erin Falce rounded out the goal scorers for
IUP. Romasco also had two assists, and Schreiner (pictured), Falce,
Amanda Fecik, Crystal Heder and Kim Kowalski each had one.
West Virginia Wesleyan scored the
first goal with Katie Schubert putting the Bobcats ahead 29:50 into the
game.
But it was all IUP from that point
on. Romasco tied it at the 33:25 mark of the first half, and
Speese gave the hosts the lead for good just 35 seconds later.
Romasco scored her second goal of
the game and team- and PSAC-leading 12th of the season to make it 3-1 at
halftime. Schreiner scored both of her goals in the second half,
including one with just 10 seconds remaining on the clock.
Becky Dillard went the distance in
goal for IUP and made four saves. Lauren Hessian had 15 saves in
the first half and Savannah Dempsey had nine in the second for West
Virginia Wesleyan. IUP held a 38-6 advantage in shots.
IUP plays host to Slippery Rock
next Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a battle of the top two teams in the PSAC
West.
