IUP Drops Decision to
Nationally-Ranked West Chester

West Chester defeated IUP, 3-1, Tuesday in a PSAC
crossover women’s soccer game at South Campus Field.
IUP (3-2) and West Chester (2-0) played to a
scoreless first half, but the Golden Rams’ Brittany Yetter netted what
turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute.
West Chester is ranked seventh in National Soccer
Coaches Association of America poll.
Danielle Gerz scored 22 minutes later to give West
Chester a 2-0 lead as Julie Karcher recorded her second assist of the
day.
IUP cut it to 2-1 with five minutes remaining as
Sarah Romasco scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from
Janel Paffie.
But the Golden Rams put the game away less than a
minute later as Karcher scored after taking a pass from Lauren Ginnona.
IUP goalie Becky Dillard returned to the lineup
after sitting out the past two games and played all 90 minutes, making
seven saves.
West Chester goalie Brittany Barnes made three
saves while not giving up a goal in the first half. Hilary Smart
played the second half and made four saves.
IUP plays host to Edinboro Saturday at 2 p.m. in a
PSAC West game at the South Campus Field.
