IUP Drops Regular
Season Finale at Gannon, Looks Ahead to PSAC Playoffs
Boxscore
IUP wrapped up its regular season with a 2-1 loss at Gannon on Sunday
and now sets its sights on the PSAC and NCAA playoffs.
IUP, ranked second in the Northeast Region and 14th nationally, has an
opening round bye in the PSAC tournament and will host either Slippery
Rock or Lock Haven in the semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m.
The quarterfinal round of the tournament takes place on Tuesday.
In addition to the Lock Haven at Slippery Rock game in the West,
Shippensburg visits Kutztown in the East, with the winner facing
undefeated and second-ranked West Chester in the semifinals.
The winner of the Western Division semifinal will host the PSAC
championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. IUP has won the PSAC West
title the past two years and took conference tournament title in 2004
when the championship game was played at IUP.
The first and second rounds of the NCAA Division II tournament take
place November 3 and 5, with the Northeast Regional in all likelihood
taking place at West Chester.
IUP (13-5) will play its opening postseason game without Erin Falce, who
was issued a red card with 8:32 remaining against Gannon, forcing her to
miss the next scheduled contest.
With Falce out of the game and IUP shorthanded, Gannon's Katy Lynn
scored her second goal of the game with 3:43 remaining to give the
Golden Knights (9-9-1) the victory.
Lynn had tied it with 5:41 expired in the second half. IUP took a
1-0 lead into intermission on a goal by Crystal Heder midway through the
opening half, assisted by Falce.
Gannon held a 15-11 advantage in shots, with Becky Dillard making three
saves for IUP. Tiffani Parks stopped five shots for the Golden
Knights.
