IUP Pulls Away in
Second Half to Down Pitt Greensburg
Erin Falce broke a scoreless tie with 2:32 expired in the second
half, and IUP went on to a 4-0 victory over host Pitt Greensburg in a
non-conference contest Thursday afternoon.
The win improved IUP's record to 6-1 while the Bobcats are now 3-2.
Falce scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season off an assist
from Crystal Heder to give the Indians the only tally they would need.
Despite dominating the contest, IUP could not put the game away until
scoring three goals in a span of just under 13 minutes late in the
second half.
Shana Speese, Janel Paffie and Danielle Lusetich all found the net
for their first goals of the season to blow the game open. Speese
made it 2-0 at the 76:26 mark, with the assist going to Veronica Jermeko.
Just 3:02 later, Paffie headed in a pass from Corey Weir, and
Lusetich rounded out the scoring with under a minute remaining off an
assist by Lisa Castelli.
IUP fired 21 shots at Pitt Greensburg goalkeeper Dana Huether while
the Bobcats did not have a single shot attempt. The Indians also
had 11 corner kick opportunities to none for Pitt Greensburg.
Sarah Daw played the first 80 minutes in goal for IUP while Becky
Dillard saw action over the final 10 minutes.
The Indians are off until Monday when they host Seton Hill in another
non-conference game. That contest will start at 5:00, an hour
later than originally scheduled.
