IUP Routs Salem International in Women's Soccer Season Opener

IUP raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening 23 minutes and coasted to a 4-1 victory over visiting Salem International in its season opener Wednesday evening.

Erin Falce put IUP on the scoreboard just six minutes into the contest, and Emily Thomas made it 2-0 ten minutes later.  Kirsten Hogg had assists on both goals.

The Indians built their advantage to 3-0 when Cora Roeder found the net on a corner kick from Thomas.  Thomas also assisted on the final IUP goal, a tally by Crystal Heder midway through the second half.

Salem International avoided the shutout with 12 minutes left on the clock when Christiane Santos beat Tabitha Wiest, the third goalie employed by IUP.

Sarah Daw started in goal for the Indians and made one save over the first 50 minutes.  Becky Dillard was also credited with one save in her 20 minutes of action before Wiest went the rest of the way.

IUP held a whopping 21-4 advantage in shots.  Jessica Jones was forced to make 10 saves for Salem International.

IUP returns to action when it hosts Mansfield Saturday at 1:30.
