Heder's Hat Trick
Lifts IUP Past California
Crystal Heder scored three goals to highlight IUP's 7-1 rout of
visiting California in a PSAC West contest Tuesday afternoon.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Indians, who raised their
record to 10-1 and 3-1 in the PSAC West. The Vulcans are 3-8 and
1-4 in the division.
Erin Falce opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game, giving her 20
on the year and sole possession of first place on the IUP single season
goals list. Falce had shared the record with Amy Peterson, who
tallied 19 times in 1994.
Heder scored her first goal with 14 minutes left before halftime and
added an acrobatic goal just one minute later to give IUP a 3-0 lead at
the break.
Brittany Pikur, Emily Thomas and Selena Stern added second half goals
before Heder registered the hat trick and scored her 11th goal of the
season on a penalty kick as time expired.
Cora Roeder had two assists for the Indians, while Heder, Shana
Speese and Jenna Witkowski had one each.
Sarah Daw played 63 minutes for IUP, making four saves while allowing
the lone California goal to Terri Flaherty. Becky Dillard did not
make a save in 27 minutes of action. Dana Galiffa had six saves
for the Vulcans.
IUP plays next on Thursday when the Indians host Bloomsburg in a 4:00
contest.
