IUP Rallies Past Nationally-Ranked Slippery Rock in Key PSAC West Showdown

Erin Falce scored two second half goals to help IUP overcome a 1-0 deficit, leading the Indians to a 2-1 win over Slippery Rock in an important PSAC West contest Tuesday afternoon.

The victory improved IUP's record to 13-2 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC West.  The win total is just one shy of the school record of 14 set in 1994.  Slippery Rock, ranked 14th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association poll, fell to 9-2-2 and 5-1-1 in the PSAC West.

IUP avenged a 2-1 double overtime loss to Slippery Rock on September 11 and moved the Indians to within one point of the PSAC West lead.  IUP has 15 points while The Rock and Lock Haven both have 16.  The top three teams in each division will advance to the PSAC playoffs beginning November 2.

IUP fell behind 1-0 when Emma Wright scored off an assist by Martina Hall just 19 seconds into the second half.  The lead held up until the 70 minute mark when Falce scored her first goal of the game, assisted by Laurie Nebiker.

Just 4:05 later, Falce found the back of the net again, extending her school record to 25 goals on the season, to give IUP a 2-1 advantage.  Crystal Heder assisted on the goal.

Falce increased her career goal total to 39, three behind the IUP record currently held by Amy Peterson.  Together with her 14 assists, Falce has 92 career points, two shy of Peterson's mark.

Becky Dillard made seven saves to preserve the win for IUP while Slippery Rock netminder Karrine Riggins stopped four shots.

The Indians remain home when it hosts Edinboro on Saturday in another PSAC West contest.  That game begins at 2:00.
