Crystal Heder scored two goals in the first half to spark
IUP to a 4-0 lead by intermission, and the Indians coasted to a 6-0 victory
over Mansfield on Saturday.
IUP (2-0) held a 23-1 advantage in shots, with Sarah Daw
making the only save of the game for the Indians while playing the first 45
minutes. Becky Dillard and Tabitha Wiest were untested while splitting
duties in goal during the second half.
Erin Falce gave IUP the only goal it would need off an
assist by Selena Stern 12 minutes into the game. Heder scored on a
penalty kick at the 26-minute mark and scored again just three minutes later
to make it 3-0.
A Corey Weir goal, assisted by Meghan Jones, came with 14
minutes left before the half and boosted IUP's lead to 4-0.
Kirsten Hogg and Emily Thomas rounded out the scoring with
second half goals, with Falce assisting on both.
Nicole Rodweller made 14 saves for the Mountaineers.
IUP continues its season-opening homestand with games
against Penn State Altoona on Tuesday and Point Park on Thursday. Both
games begin at 4:00.
