IUP Season Wraps Up with Loss to Adelphi in NCAA Northeast Region Tournament

Complete Boxscore

Josephine Coiro scored both goals to lead Adelphi to a 2-0 win over IUP in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Northeast Region tournament at Southampton, N.Y.

The loss ends the most successful season in IUP history at 19-4.  IUP set a school record for most wins in a season and captured its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title since 1995.

The Indians were making their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Adelphi (18-3) is the two-time defending region champion and will play host LIU-Southampton on Sunday.  The Colonials posted a 4-3 overtime win over West Chester in Friday's other quarterfinal.

Coiro scored her first goal 19:20 into the game off an assist by Shannon McEntee and added an insurance tally with 18:43 left, with the assist going to Lauren Lopez.

Adelphi controlled play throughout, taking 20 shots to only one for the Indians.  Erin Falce provided IUP's best chance, putting a header on a corner kick just over the crossbar midway through the opening half.

Sarah Daw played the first 79 minutes in goal for IUP, allowing both Panther goals while making five saves.  Becky Dillard stopped one shot over the final 11 minutes.

Christine Conway was not forced to make a save for Adelphi.
