IUP Takes Fifth at
Lonnie Barton Invitational to Open Spring Season

The IUP golf team finished in fifth place out of
15 teams at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, its opening event of the
spring season.
IUP had a team score of 641, three shots behind
fourth place Concord and six shy of third place Fairfield. Jackson
State won the tournament (611), followed by Rider (625). IUP was
second among Division II schools.
Freshman Cory Stelick was the top IUP individual,
tying for ninth with a two-day score of 156 on the par 72 course.
Dan Vollmer tied for 16th (158), Michael Schmidt tied for 18th (159) and
Eric Anderson tied for 20th (160).
Rounding out the IUP competitors were Aaron
Williams (tied for 38th, 167), Brian Galica (tied for 55th, 171), Cody
Kersey (tied for 71st, 177) and R.J. Cilley (tied for 79th, 185).
IUP was the leading finisher of the three
competing PSAC teams, with Slippery Rock tying for seventh and West
Chester finishing 12th.
IUP competes next at the Camp Lejeune (N.C.)
Intercollegiate March 31-April 2.
