IUP Falls Two Shots
Out of First at Cecil Spadafora/IUP Invitational
Complete Team and Individual Standings
IUP had a score of 296 to finish just two shots
behind Clarion at the Cecil Spadafora/IUP Invitational on Wednesday at
the Indiana Country Club.
The 43rd annual event took on added poignancy
when Spadafora, a longtime supporter of the IUP golf program, passed
away on Tuesday at the age of 92.
Clarion and IUP were followed by Saint Vincent
(298), Saint Francis (299), Allegheny (301), Millersville (302) and
Bucknell and West Liberty State (304) as the top eight teams were just
10 shots apart.
Brian Galica was the top IUP individual, tying
for third after firing a 72 on the par 71 course. He was one shy
behind Steve Foisy of Saint Francis and Drew Denton of Allegheny.
Foisy won medalist honors on the first playoff hole.
Galica tied for third with Justin Moose of
Clarion and Bryan Snow of Shepherd.
IUP's Michael Schmidt tied for sixth at 73 while
Cory Stelick and Cody Kersey tied for 15th at 75. Kersey was
competing as an individual and did not count toward IUP's team score.
IUP will compete again in the Bob
Raymond/Slippery Rock Invitational on Thursday.
