IUP won its second
golf tournament in as many events this spring, taking a six-stroke
victory at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational at the Hartefeld National Golf
Club in Avondale.
The Crimson Hawks had
a two-day score of 603 to best PSAC rival Millersville. IUP also won
the Lonnie Barton Invitational earlier this month and has a total of
three tournament titles on the year and has finished in the top three in
six of seven events.
Following IUP and
Millersville were West Chester, which finished 19 shots behind the
Crimson Hawks at 622, Pace (624) and Dominican (626). In all, there
were 19 teams entered in the tournament.
Cory Stelick was the
top IUP individual finisher, firing a one-over par score of 145 to place
fourth. He was four shots behind medalist Corey Gast of
Millersville and two behind Mike Dominici of Pace and Steven Cutler of
Goldey-Beacom.
Also finishing in the
top 10 was Gavin Smith, who tied for ninth with a score of 153.
Rounding out the IUP competitors were Nic Milito (154, tied for 13th),
Thomas Facciani (156, tied for 22nd) and Ryan Kennedy (160,
tied for 31st).
IUP will play host to
the Cecil Spadafora/IUP Invitational on April 9-10. The April 9 round
will take place at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville and the April 10
round will be played at the Indiana Country Club.
