IUP Surges Into Hunt for Championship at NCAA East Regional Tournament

IUP turned in the best round of the day with a team score of 291 to climb back in the hunt for the NCAA East Region title and a berth at the national tournament.

The Crimson Hawks trailed first place Charleston by 12 shots after Monday's opening round but were able to trim nine shots off their deficit and are just three back entering the final round on Wednesday at the Speidel Jones Course in Wheeling, W.Va.

Charleston continues to lead with a score of 601, two shots ahead of Fairmont State and three clear of IUP.  In a tightly contested field, Millersville is fourth at 606, followed by Ohio Valley at 609 and Concord at 614.

Clarion (623) and West Liberty State (624) round out the eight-team tournament.  The winner advances to nationals beginning May 22 in Allendale, Mich.

Freshman Nic Milito fired an even par round of 71, the second best round of the tournament so far, and is in a four-way tie for second place with a score of 149.  Will Gautreau of Fairmont State shot a 70, one under par, and is one shot ahead of the field.

Thomas Facciani and Gavin Smith are tied for 11th with scores of 151, Cory Stelick is tied for 18th (153) and Ryan Kennedy is tied for 34th (160).
