IUP Clinches PSAC Playoff Berth
by Defeating Slippery Rock
IUP wrapped up its first trip to the PSAC playoffs since
2000 with a 6-0 victory over Slippery Rock combined with
a Lock Haven 2-1 overtime win at East Stroudsburg.
IUP upped its record to 11-9 overall and 9-7 in the PSAC
while Slippery Rock finished its season at 3-16 and 2-14
in conference play.
IUP and East Stroudsburg finished in a tie for the fourth
and final PSAC playoff spot, but the Indians advanced to
the postseason by virtue of a win over Lock Haven earlier
in the season.
IUP will play at Bloomsburg in the semifinals Tuesday at
2:30 while Lock Haven travels to Shippensburg for a 1:00
semifinal contest. The winners of the semifinal games
play for the conference title on Saturday at the home of
the top remaining seed.
In the rout over Slippery Rock at Miller Stadium, Amy
Pincock scored three goals, giving her a total of 15 for
the season. Pincock was one of seven seniors playing
their final home game.
Other seniors who scored included Becky Frank with one
goal and two assists and Chrissy Hill and Marley Brown
with one assist each. The IUP senior class is rounded
out by Julie Bergin, Becca Geiger and Amy Zoccola.
Wendy Strohl and Kandice Pyles also found the cage for
the Indians while Strohl, Amanda O'Brian and Ashley
Minjock contributed assists.
IUP held a commanding 28-2 advantage in shots, with the
combination of Jamie Parell and Lauren Lee forced to
make only one save. Kristin Sands posted 16 saves for
Slippery Rock.
