Pincock's Overtime Goal Lifts
IUP Past Millersville
IUP remained in the hunt for a berth in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference playoffs, downing Millersville
by a score of 2-1 in overtime Wednesday afternoon.
The Indians improved to 10-9 overall and 8-7 in PSAC play.
IUP will earn a spot in the playoffs with a home win over
Slippery Rock on Saturday combined with a Lock Haven
victory over East Stroudsburg.
Although the Indians dominated play, they needed a goal
by Amy Pincock with 2:24 remaining in the extra session
to pull out the victory. IUP held a 20-3 edge in shots
and took 23 penalty corners compared to only five for
Millersville (2-16, 1-14 PSAC).
After a scoreless first half, the Marauders jumped out to
a 1-0 lead when Sami Griffith scored with 3:39 expired
after intermission. Twenty minutes later, IUP tied it up
when Chrissy Hill scored off an assist by Wendy Strohl.
Pincock, who earlier was thwarted on a penalty shot by
Jada Wolfe, beat the Millersville keeper on a breakaway
12-footer in front of the cage to give the Indians the
victory.
Jamie Parell was forced to make only two saves in goal for
IUP while Wolfe stopped 11 IUP scoring opportunites.
The Senior Day game against Slippery Rock on Saturday at
Miller Stadium gets under way at 1:00.
