Hill Scores Twice to Lead
IUP Past Mercyhurst
Chrissy Hill scored twice in a 4:41 span in the first
half to spark IUP to a 3-0 victory over Mercyhurst in
a non-conference contest Wednesday at Miller Stadium.
The Indians improved to 7-8 and have won four of their
past five contests. The Lakers fell to 6-5.
After playing to a scoreless tie for most of the first
half, IUP got on the board with 10:43 remaining before
intermission when Hill beat Mercyhurst goalkeeper Julie
Smith.
Hill made it 2-0 at the 6:02 mark, sneaking one in the
corner of the cage. Both of Hill's goals were assisted
by Becky Frank.
IUP wasted little time in expanding its advantage after
halftime. Julie Bergin scored off a pass from Kandice
Pyles just 38 seconds into the second stanza to provide
the final margin of victory.
IUP held a 21-13 advantage in shots on goal, with Jamie
Parell registering 11 saves for the Indians. Smith was
credited with 14 saves for the Lakers.
IUP returns to PSAC play Saturday with a 12:00 game at
Bloomsburg. The Huskies are currently in second place
in the conference standings with a 9-2 league mark and
defeated IUP earlier this season by a score of 4-1.
