IUP Breezes Past Mansfield
in PSAC Contest
IUP built a 3-0 lead early in the second half and coasted
to a 4-1 victory over Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Miller
Stadium.
The win improved IUP's record to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in
the PSAC while the Mountaineers fell to 1-6 and 1-5 in
league play.
The game was scoreless until the 14:32 mark of the first
half when Chrissy Hill put the Indians in front. With
just 2:59 remaining before intermission, Amy Pincock
found the cage to give IUP a 2-0 lead at intermission.
The Indians started the second half quickly, tallying
their third goal of the game just three minutes after
the break when Amanda O'Brian scored on a pass from
Becca Geiger.
Mansfield finally got on the scoreboard with 23:00 left
on a goal by Kristen Campbell, but IUP got that score
back with 11:29 to go in the game when Pincock added
her second goal on a penalty corner, assisted by Wendy
Strohl and Becky Frank.
Jamie Parell went the distance in goal for IUP and faced
only five shots, making four saves. In goal for the
Mountaineers was Heather Long, who was peppered with 31
shots and recorded 23 saves.
IUP is back in action Tuesday with another PSAC game at
Kutztown beginning at 4:00.
