IUP Edges Juniata for
Fifth Straight Win
Alysia Spence scored with 4:44 remaining in the first overtime period to
lift IUP to a 3-2 victory over Juniata and run its winning streak to five
games.
IUP, ranked third in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association
poll, raised its record to 6-1 on the year while Juniata suffered its
first loss in five contests.
The goal was the team-leading fifth of the season for Spence, the reigning
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference player of the week. Julie Hess was
credited with the assist on the game winner.
Amy Pincock and Jess Malenich scored the first two IUP goals of the game,
and Spence and Ashley Minjock picked up assists. Monica Kling made eight
saves in goal for the Indians, including a pair in overtime, while Juniata
goalkeeper Melonie Sappe stopped six IUP shots.
IUP is back in action this weekend with a pair of games. The Indians play
at Shippensburg on Saturday and Philadelphia on Sunday.
