Kareem Dutrieuille, Corey Sample Sweep PSAC West Weekly Football Awards

IUP junior tailback Kareem Dutrieuille and senior free safety Corey Sample were both named recipients of the PSAC West weekly awards after their performance in a 27-7 win over Edinboro on Saturday at Miller Stadium.

Dutrieuille (Braddock/Woodland Hills) was selected the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week after setting career highs with 28 rushing attempts and 100 yards.  He scored two touchdowns, both on one-yard runs in the second half as IUP pulled away from what was just a 13-7 halftime lead.

Dutrieuille (right) added a pair of receptions for 12 yards, with both catches converting third downs and leading to first quarter scoring drives that gave the Crimson Hawks an early 10-0 lead.

Sample (Philadelphia/North East) was chosen the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week.  He had seven tackles, including four solo stops, and broke up two passes to lead the IUP defensive effort that held Edinboro to 36 points below its season scoring average.

Sample (left) also turned in the biggest defensive play of the game for the Crimson Hawks.  Trailing by six, Edinboro drove to the IUP 10 at the start of the third quarter when Trevor Harris connected with Denayne Dixon.  As Dixon was heading into the end zone, Sample forced a fumble that Quinton Cobb recovered to prevent Edinboro from taking the lead.

Dutrieuille’s previous highs were 20 carries for 91 yards in the 2006 season opener at Cheyney.  For the season, he has carried 91 times for 352 yards and has a team-leading seven touchdowns.  Dutrieuille is tied for seventh in the PSAC with an average of 7.0 points per game.

In 20 career games at IUP, Dutrieuille has carried 204 times for 794 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Sample is in his second season at IUP after transferring from Tuskegee.  This season he is fourth on the team in tackles with 30, adding two tackles for loss and four pass breakups to go along with his forced fumble against Edinboro.  He has 74 tackles and has broken up eight passes in his two seasons at IUP.

The win over Edinboro improved the Crimson Hawks to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC West heading into a road swing at Lock Haven and Clarion the next two weeks.

IUP entered the game against the Fighting Scots ranked third in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region and 24th nationally in the American Football Coaches Association poll.
