Senior tailback Chris Morgan has been named the PSAC West Offensive Player
of the Week after his record setting performance in IUP’s 35-20 win over
East Stroudsburg on Saturday at Miller Stadium.
Morgan
(Pittsburgh/Woodland Hills) rushed for 286 yards on only 18 carries to break
his own school single game record as IUP improved to 2-0 on the season. He
averaged 15.9 yards per carry and scored on runs of 62, 26 and 51 yards –
all in the first half – to power IUP to a 28-20 lead by the break.
Morgan previously set the single game rushing record in 2004 when he posted
266 yards against Lock Haven. He has rushed for over 100 yards in 16 of 20
games as the starting tailback dating back to the final two contests of the
2003 season.
In two games so far this season, Morgan has rushed for 426 yards to easily
lead the PSAC with an average of 213.0 per outing. He has scored five
touchdowns and also paces the conference with an average of 15.0 points per
game. Morgan is averaging a whopping 12.2 yards per carry on 35 attempts.
In addition to breaking the single game rushing record, Morgan also
continued his climb up the IUP career record book. He moved past Dennis
Robinson for third place in rushing yards with 2,925 and is also third in
attempts with 523 and seventh with 25 touchdowns on the ground. Morgan also
stands 10th with 26 total touchdowns scored.
Only Michael Mann (4,805) and Aamir Dew (3,623) have rushed for more yards
in an IUP uniform than Morgan.
