The IUP women edged Slippery Rock for the team title at the IUP Invitational held Saturday at the South Campus Course.  The Crimson Hawks finished with 27 points, one fewer than Slippery Rock.

IUP won its second straight team championship after also taking first place at the Davis & Elkins meet last week.  The Crimson Hawk men, meanwhile, placed third.  There were a total of seven teams in both events.

Behind the top two teams were Geneva (80 points), Davis & Elkins (111), Carnegie Mellon (119), California (141) and Point Park (147).

Slippery Rock swept the top five positions in the men's race to win with 15 points, outdistancing Carnegie Mellon (44) and IUP (105).  Rounding out the field were California (108), Davis & Elkins (133), Geneva (171) and Point Park (214).

Erica Hoffman was the top IUP woman, finishing second with a time of 23:36.  The Crimson Hawks also took spots fourth through six with Maureen Newell (23:57), Laura Blaesser (24:35) and Stacie Stockard (24:40).

Nate Shelly led the IUP men with an 11th place finish with a time of 27:44.  He was followed by Ben Shinksy (23rd, 28:20), Bobby Boston (41st, 29:09), Luke Snyder (42nd, 29:10) and Ben Havko (46th, 29:26).
